Welcome back to Fun Fact Friday, where we bring you some trivia to liven up your Fri-yay!
Today, we will take a closer look at some people who have worn the largest shoes ever recorded. From towering giants to basketball players, these individuals have left a big impression on the world of footwear.
Who Holds the Record for Biggest Feet Ever?
First up, we have Robert Wadlow. At a towering height of 8 feet 11 inches, Wadlow is the tallest person in recorded history. As you might imagine, he had some pretty big feet to match - his shoes measured an astounding US size 37AA. With a shoe size like that, Wadlow didn't have many options when it came to footwear. We're surprised he didn't resort to wearing canoes as shoes.
Robert Wadlow's foot length of approximately 18 inches is roughly the same length as a standard-sized ruler, a large pizza, a windshield wiper blade, or an average computer keyboard. It's also the equivalent of about 1.5 feet or 0.45 meters.
Who Is Living with The Biggest Feet Now?
Next, we have Jeison Orlando Rodriguez Hernandez from Venezuela. He currently holds the record for the largest feet on a living person (male), with a shoe size of 26. That's bigger than most people's torsos!
Jeison Orlando Rodriguez Hernandez's foot length of approximately 16 inches is roughly the same length as a large watermelon, a bowling pin, a small to medium-sized laptop, or a standard-sized bicycle tire. It's also the equivalent of about 1.3 feet or 0.4 meters.
Who Has the Biggest Feet in The NBA?
Being some of the tallest people around, it's no surprise that basketball players are often known for having larger feet. Their height requires a larger base to support their bodies. As they grow taller, their feet tend to grow in proportion, resulting in shoe sizes that are much larger than the average person's.
This is especially true for centers and other players who play close to the basket and need to be able to jump and run while supporting their significant height. So it's no wonder the last two people on our list are two of the tallest players in NBA history. Shaquille O'Neal and Tacko Fall both wear size 22 shoes.
Shaquille O'Neal and Tacko Fall share a foot length of approximately 15 inches, roughly the same length as a large frying pan, a medium-sized watermelon, or a standard-sized skateboard deck. It's also the equivalent of about 1.25 feet or 0.38 meters.
It's safe to say that when these individuals don't go shoe shopping, like the rest of us. Can you imagine walking into a store and asking for a size 37AA shoe? The salesperson's eyes would probably bug out of their head!
But despite the challenges of finding footwear that fits, these individuals have certainly made their mark on the world of shoes. They've shattered records, broken barriers, and left us all in awe of their incredible feats (and feet). And let's not forget; they've given us all a good laugh or two with their comically large shoes.
So here's to the giants, the record-breakers, and the basketball players with feet the size of small cars. You may have big shoes to fill, but you're doing it with style (even if that style involves wearing canoes for shoes). So keep walking (or should I say stomping) to the beat of your own drum because size really does matter when it comes to shoes!
